Steve is a professional and highly experienced commercial leader and problem solver. He is a Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, the Chartered Institute of Building and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

He trained as a Quantity Surveyor with Taylor Woodrow in the 1980’s and progressed to hold senior Commercial Manager and Commercial Director posts within other major UK contracting organisations Mowlem, Carillion and Balfour Beatty.

Steve’s career has spanned across most industry sectors both private and public, and in particular, commercial building, residential, student accommodation, education, health and retail together with roads, rail and aviation experience in the civil engineering arenas. He has also operated within specialist subcontracting organisations.

He has extensive pre and post contract expertise in contractual and project administration using JCT, NEC, FIDIC, PPC, PFI, Government and bespoke forms of contract and advises on commercial, operational and contractual risk management for traditional, design & build, two-stage negotiated, frameworks and joint ventures.

Steve has a naturally open, engaging and collaborative style and has built strong customer and stakeholder relationships wherever he has worked.

He has acquired extensive corporate ‘know-how’ and has successfully led and implemented a number of transformational change and business improvement programmes and organizational re-structures.

Steve has an excellent track record of resolving difficult commercial situations and has built his reputation on strong work ethics, diligence, integrity and trustworthiness. He has a ‘hands-on’ approach and likes to prepare, plan and negotiate robustly to find the best possible solutions.

He also has considerable first-hand experience with formal dispute resolution routes such as Adjudication and Mediation and is comfortable leading and managing larger, multi-disciplinary teams including legal, planning and quantum experts.

Steve is passionate about developing people, has championed various training programmes and has coached and mentored individual staff within organisations he has worked for. He provides commercial and project management training services including advisory work and guest lecturing support for The University of Hertfordshire.

Outside of work Steve is married with three grown up children. Aside from enjoying family time and holidays, Steve has several hobbies including motorcycling, golf, badminton, swimming and reading.
